Autumn is easily one of our favourite seasons. It’s a time of crisp air, vibrant colours, and of course, pumpkins! But what makes this season truly special for us is the opportunity to reconnect with our fantastic past clients and bring new, creative ideas to life.

We have a long and wonderful history with the team at Blackburn BID. They are a brilliant group to work with, and over the years, we’ve collaborated on all sorts of projects, from sand sculptures in the summer to spooky pumpkin events in the autumn. We are always thrilled when they get in touch, so we were delighted when they asked us to come back for their latest Halloween event.

This year, the plan was not just to provide our popular pumpkin carving workshops; we were also excited to provide our brand-new, ‘cute’ photo-op pumpkin patch!

Creating an Autumn Oasis in The Mall

The event was held in The Mall, which meant we had the fantastic challenge of bringing a rustic, outdoor autumn experience indoors. Our brilliant team members, Claire and Jocasta, were on the ground to manage the day. They set up both the pumpkin patch and the adjacent carving workshop area, meticulously arranging everything before the doors opened, waiting for the families to come flooding in.

And flood in they did!

The photo-op pumpkin patch was an absolute, total winner from the moment the first family saw it. We’ve learned that a great event isn’t just about the activity; it’s about creating a fully immersive experience and a lasting memory. This is exactly what the patch was designed to do.

It wasn’t just a pile of pumpkins. We created a little autumnal world, complete with realistic backdrop, rustic crates, autumanal foliage and a whole host of perfectly orange pumpkins waiting to be chosen. To make the experience even more memorable, Claire and Jocasta got fully into the Halloween spirit, acting as our friendly, resident scarecrows, welcoming families and posing for photos whilst also managing the carving workshops.

We also brought along our popular new “face-through-the-hole” photo board, which, provided much fun and laughter. It was fantastic to see so many families taking the time to get some great photos to remember the day.

From the Patch to the Workshop

The flow of the event worked perfectly. First, kids and their families were invited into the pumpkin patch. There’s a special kind of magic in watching a child’s face light up as they hunt for their perfect pumpkin. They got to pick up their chosen pumpkin—completely free—and pose for an autumnal photo if wanted before and/or after carving it.

With their prized pumpkin in hand, they then headed to the carving workshop tables, conveniently placed right alongside the patch. This is where the real hands-on creativity began.

The tables were buzzing with activity all day. This is the part of our job that is just so heartwarming. We were struck by how many children and families told us they had never had the opportunity to carve a pumpkin before. This is why these workshops are so important. We provide everything: the space, the tools, the inspiration, and the friendly guidance to help them get started.

The sheer fun and concentration in the room were palpable. We saw parents and children working together, friends laughing as they compared designs, and kids looking on with pride as their spooky, funny, or creative faces came to life. They carved out some truly fantastic pumpkins!

This is what it’s all about for us: removing the barriers and giving families a chance to share a fun, creative experience they might otherwise miss out on. The day was filled with joy, and seeing everyone leave with a pumpkin they were proud of was the best reward.

Looking to the Future

Events like this one in Blackburn are always a highlight of our year. It’s a popular, high-energy, and incredibly positive day that brings the community together.

We are so grateful to Blackburn BID for having us back and for trusting us to bring their vision to life. We loved every minute of it and are already looking forward to hopefully doing this again—and even more—in the future.
