Tees Valley Combined Authority contacted us in August to see if we could help them create some press worthy land art to welcome the world class cyclists from Tour of Britain as they pass through the region.

The design team worked closely with Olivia from Tees Valley Combined Authority to create some art work incorporating a bike and some images of  things Tees Valley is known for.

Jamie, Peter and Dave set off to Redcar the day before with the van packed and the design ready to go.

After an early start, and a lot of raking (the grass had been cut, but the cut grass was left) the team got the design outlined, then after a quick peanut butter sandwich break they began filling in the design it was all completed and ready to photograph before dinner.

Stage 2 of The Tour of Yorkshire set off Darlington at 11:00am and took Stephen Williams 3hrs 37mins and 25 seconds to win the race. The cyclists passed by the land art around 2:30. We were thrilled for the design to make it on to ITV4 as they filmed the cyclists passing through the region.

Ian McNeal, Communications Manager at Tees Valley Combined Authority, said: “We worked closely with Sand in Your Eye on this project and were delighted at how the completed artwork looked. “The land art featured prominently on the live TV coverage of the event and provided a great platform to promote our brand and the fantastic attractions we have across Tees Valley.”
