In 2024 the Wimbledon Foundation celebrated their 10 year anniversary. To mark the event they asked us here at Sand In Your Eye to help create an eye catching art instillation that visitors to The Championships could engage with as they entered The All England Lawn Tennis Club. Creating a unique selfie opportunity for spectators to post on their own social media accounts and helping to raise awareness of the Wimbledon Foundation and the work they do.
Collaborating to Bring Inspiration to Reality
Dave our lead designer collaborated with Rachel at Wimbledon Foundation. Taking inspiration from the official Wimbledon poster, which includes illustrations of tennis balls, rackets and net a on a bed of flowers synonymous with Wimbledon such as ivy, hydrangeas, agapanthus, petunias, salvia, foxgloves, and lupins, they developed a plan for a huge number 10 topiary bush, where the structure was enveloped in weather proof 3D sculptures and cut images of foliage, flowers and strawberries.
To bring the structure to life and draw attention to the meaningful work the Wimbledon Foundation does, the foliage was further embellished with Wimbledon memorabilia and displayed the names of some of the 382 charities the Foundation has supported as well as facts about the work the Foundation does.
The four main goals of the Wimbledon Foundation are:
– Strengthening the local community
– Promoting healthy and active lives
– Inspiring the next generation
– Responding in times of need
The installation was a massive success, and even featured in a reel posted to their Instagram account which you can view here
The Completed Sculpture
We at sand In Your Eye are extremely proud to have worked with the Wimbledon Foundation on this project.
Rachel from the Wimbledon Foundation said
“Thank you so much to the everyone at Sand In Your Eye for helping bring our vision to reality and creating such a unique Wimbledon themed piece celebrating the work of the Foundation over the last decade.”
