The first weekend in December is always one of our favorites here at Sand In Your Eye. With Christmas just around the corner the ice events calender is really ramping up, and we were thrilled to be kicking off the month in a very snowy Dundee.

On the 1st December (the day after our Christmas party!!) Claire jumped in to the van and set off alone on the 5 hour drive up the road. With every mile she drove, the temperature dropped. By the time she arrived in Dundee she was in 3” of snow and with no need to unload into a freezer over night. The van was cold enough!!

After a cozy night sleep, Claire started the day bright and early. Setting up the two 120kg ice blocks on to a raised platform ready for the live carve, might seem like quite a task. Luckily, Claire has plenty of experience and was ready get going in no time at all.

The Dundee Town square was a hive of activity, with Christmas stalls and workshops. Despite the super cold weather, the people of Dundee were out on mass.

Once Claire had a pair of magical ice wings the safty barriers were taken down so that the event visitors got the opportunity to pose for their very own Ice fairy selfie.

Sadly it was just a bit too cold for Claire to Elf up! Sometimes ever elves forget their thermals!
