At the end of summer we were contacted by Emma on behalf of Wakefield Bid to see if we could take part in this years Wicked Wakey spooktacular weekend event running 28/29th October 2023.

The event was going to take place around Wakefield City Centre, and included activities such as an outdoor cinema, showing Halloween films all weekend, Spooktacular dress up and workshops, as well as a free pumpkin for those who solved a Halloween riddle using clues hidden around the town. We, were thrilled to be included in the fun.

The team were asked to create 5 pumpkin scenes that celebrated to culture of and history of Wakefield. So after some discussion the 5 scenes were decided upon.

The team carved the pumpkins in the busy Sand in Your Eye studio the week before the big weekend.

Amy and Jocasta set their alarms for 5:30am on the Saturday, to make sure they got to Wakefield with plenty of time to set up the 5 exciting scenes. The girls arrived earlier than planned and so had time for their second coffee of the day before they got started.

The scenes were to placed around Wakefield Cathedral, with wheelbarrows loaded with Yorkshire puddings, lumps of coal, musical instruments and a rugby ball the pumpkins were placed on their stands and the scenes pulled together in time for event visitors to enjoy everything the spooktacular event had to offer.
