At the end of November, Rich Spence and Mark Wilson, our professional ice carvers took a short trip down the road from our studio in Cragg Vale to Mytholmroyd village centre to make an ice sculpture for their Christmas market to celebrate their Christmas lights switch on.

Rich and Mark arrived early in the morning to unload three massive blocks of ice and swiftly got to work with their chain saws and chisels to make the ice post box for the families to post their letters to Santa into.

There was a great festive atmosphere as the boys were chipping away with their ice carving tools, adding the finishing touches to the ice sculpture, with market stalls selling food, drink and crafts made by some fantastic local businesses and musical performances by Fat Cat Brass, local schools and Bazzmatazz

Children and families eagerly wrote their letters to Father Christmas, telling him how good they have been and then posted them through the letter slot of the life size ice carving. Rich and Mark stepped back to admire their hard work and Rich grabbed the chance for a photo with the smartly dressed Hebden Royd & Halifax town crier, Les Cutts.

As night fell, the Mayor of Hebden Royd flicked the switch and Mytholmroyd’s tree lit up the night as did the firework display and the acrobatic light show performance by Halo.

Thanks to Hebden Royd Town Council and Emma Green for once again inviting us to be a part of this wonderful event.
