A Tennis Ball Twist on the Iconic Equestrian Knight
Land Art Collaboration with Burberry
At Sand In Your Eye, we’ve always believed in pushing the boundaries of art, blending creativity with sustainability. So when we had the opportunity to take the iconic Burberry Equestrian Knight and reimagine it as a land art installation using secondhand tennis balls, we jumped at the chance. The result is Ace—a vibrant and environmentally conscious twist on an already beloved piece, made possible with the tennis balls loaned by Dyuce Ball Recycling.

Reimagining the Equestrian Knight in Land Art
Instead of traditional materials like stone or metal, we used thousands of secondhand tennis balls to create the form of the knight. The result is a land art installation that’s not just visually striking, but also environmentally impactful.
We used tennis balls that had already lived out their first life on the court, giving them a second chance as part of this stunning installation. The bright yellow and green balls stand out against the natural surroundings, offering a bold contrast to the earth, sky, and other elements of the landscape.
We created the piece on a field near to our studio in Hebden Bridge. Another thank you to Ann, the farmer who has allowed us to create many different types of land art on her fields in the past. She is a wonderful host!
A team of 5 worked over two days to create the land art.

It’s not the first time we have created land art using tennis balls. The first time we used this medium it was for WaterAid and the Wimbledon Foundation. Check out the blog post for more info.

Our work is a fusion of creativity, sustainability, and bold ideas that push the boundaries of what art can be. We’re a collective of artists, visionaries, and environmental advocates, who try to create extraordinary installations. From the very beginning, Sand In Your Eye has sought to reimagine how art can engage with both the viewer and the environment. Whether through large-scale sculptures, installations, or experiential projects, we are driven by the idea that art should provoke thought, inspire change, and celebrate the beauty of the unexpected.
