When we got the call to create a 25×40 metre portrait of Southport’s own Tommy Fleetwood right in the heart of Liverpool ONE, we knew we were taking on something special. With The Open Championship heading to Royal Birkdale, the energy across the North West was buzzing—and Chavasse Park’s lawn was the ultimate canvas to channel that local pride.

Working on-site over two days, our three-person team made up of Dave, Claire and Dan worked in the glorious Liverpool sun. A lot of planning and preparation goes in to events like this and the days out on site creating them are the pay off. We love working outdoors and as a team bringing an idea to life.

As the design started to progress, passersby started realizing who it was. Hearing people yell out “Is that Tommy?!” is always reassuring! Everyone was really friendly, positive and great to engage with. Liverpool really does live up to its reputation of being a very friendly city.

We love making large-scale land art, but nothing beats the moment the subject actually sees it. When Tommy posted the high-angle shots of our work to his Instagram with a simple—

“Wow!! Extremely honoured guys thank you!! 🙏”

—the whole team was over the moon.

Bringing art out of traditional galleries and onto the grass where thousands of people can walk past it, take photos, and feel part of the tournament vibe is why we do what we do. Good luck at Birkdale, Tommy!

Many thanks to UMPF PR who brought us in on this project, we love working with you.
