We are still buzzing from an incredible day spent at one of the UK’s most beautiful heritage sites. We were so privileged to be asked by the National Trust to be a part of their “Summer of Fun” for families during the summer holidays at the stunning Anglesey Abbey.

A Masterpiece in the Making

Our team, Jamie Wardley, Peter, and Dave, made their way to the glorious grounds of Anglesey Abbey for a day of creativity and community fun. While Dave set up for the workshops, Jamie and Peter got to work on the main event: a detailed, live carve of the building itself.

Starting with just a compacted block of sand, they began to carve, shape, and craft. Throughout the day, onlookers watched in awe as the iconic architecture of Anglesey Abbey emerged from the sand right before their eyes. Creating a replica sand sculpture in the UK, especially of such a beloved National Trust property, is always a special experience, and the engagement from the crowd was fantastic.

Hands-On Fun with Sand Workshops

The day wasn’t just about watching; it was about taking part! Dave, with fantastic support from the brilliant team members at Anglesey Abbey, ran a series of timed, ticketed workshops. Families and visitors got the chance to get their hands sandy and learn some of the secrets behind building their own amazing sand creations. It was a joy to see so much creativity and laughter.

A Lasting Impression

The team at National Trust Anglesey Abbey loved the end result. The finished replica of the house was a true tribute to the magnificent building. To ensure it could be enjoyed for as long as possible, we treated the sculpture with a special spray that hardens the outer layer, protecting it from the elements and allowing it to remain on display.

Our day at Anglesey Abbey was a perfect example of how sand sculpture can bring a unique and interactive element to any event or location. It’s such a brilliant medium for summer family fun. Imagine mixing live carving demonstrations with hands-on workshops, or even commissioning a series of pre-carved, weatherproofed sand sculptures to create a magical sand sculpture trail, encouraging the community to explore your town or place.
