Here at Sand In Your Eye pumpkin season starts much earlier that October! So when Sarah from Skipton BID contacted us at the end of August we were more than happy to talk about her idea for a family pumpkin carving workshop and live carve event and get things booked in for one of our busiest weekends of the year!

Skipton BID had a whole half term of spook-tacular Halloween events and activities planned, we were thrilled to be part of the first day of fun! There was a Monster Trail set up around Skipton, people taking part could complete the trail and then enter a Pop up Pumpkin Patch, to choose a free pumpkin.

Pumpkin Carving Workshops for All Ages

After an early start, we were set up outside the pumpkin patch in the impressive Museum Walk Amphitheater, ready to welcome pumpkin carving participants and get cracking on the live carve.
The event brought families with children ranging from 1 year old to 14 years old, plus some very eager adult , Halloween lovers to celebrate the season and create some spooky – and spectacular – pumpkin designs!

Our workshops kicked off with eager participants, ready to roll up their sleeves and get creative. With guidance from our skilled team, participants learned tips and techniques to bring their pumpkin visions to life. From traditional jack-o’-lanterns to more intricate designs, everyone got the chance to try their hand at carving, creating unique pumpkins to take home and proudly display.

It was wonderful to see the variety of designs – some people went for classic faces, while others got imaginative with patterns, animals, and even spooky zombie hand silhouette! There’s always something brilliant about watching the children really get stuck in and feel real proud of they transform their pumpkin into a glowing piece of art, and we were thrilled to help bring that experience to the people of Skipton.

Pumpkin Live Carve by Our Expert Artist

In addition to the workshops, Skipton visitors could watch the pumpkin live carve session where our expert pumpkin sculptors Dave cast a spell and, created a jumbo witchy pumpkin right in front of passers by. Visitors were amazed to see the level of detail he could achieve, turning an ordinary pumpkin into a mystical work of art. Dave worked throughout the day, carefully cutting and carving to create a 3D pumpkin masterpiece that became the centerpiece of the event. The public loved watching the process unfold, asking questions, and taking photos. The Bid team were thrilled to keep the Witchy spectacle for the remainder of their half-term activity program.

Bringing the Community Together

The team had a fantastic day, it was lovely to be amongst the creativity, and the warm spirit of Halloween. It was a fantastic opportunity for local families and, learning new skills and making memories. Events like these are a great way to bring people together, and  the Sand In Your Eye team loved working with Sarah and the rest of the Skipton BID team.
