Ian Brown famously said “Manchester’s got everything, except a beach”. This summer the Stone Roses singer would be happy to see our giant sandcastle in the middle of a beach in the centre of Manchester.

Made from 8 tonnes of sand, the sand art took Sand In Your Eye’s sand sculptors Claire Jamieson and Jamie Wardley a day to create, ably assisted by Claire’s friend Liisa. Jamie and Rich Spence popped back to make a few repairs.

The sandcastle was commissioned by Great Northern for On The Beach Holidays and has been carved for a competition, visitors can take a selfie with the sand sculpture, upload it to social media with the hashtag #ONTHEBEACHMCR for the chance of winning £1000 in holiday vouchers. The sand castle will be at the Great Northern amphitheatre for the rest of summer along with a massive sandpit for Mancunians of all ages to play in.
