Morrisons had done a pole with the public to see who were the five scariest celebrities and then asked us to re-create them as celebrity pumpkin carvings.  This was an incredible challenge especially as they were to be carved in 3D.

Often the best way to recognize a person is when they are forming a characteristic expression as a neutral face is often difficult to read.  Simon Cowell and his Cheshire cat grin, Mel B roaring as scary spice, Gordon Ramsey and his furrowed smile, Jeremy Paxman with his raised eyebrows.  Kanye West seems typically neutral in his expression, so really it was his glasses that was going to give the game away.

After looking at each pumpkin portrait intensely for six or so days, painstakingly removing minute pieces of pumpkin I had to think which one of these characters would I find most scary.  Gordon Ramsey is very intense in the moment, Simon Cowell could make or break your dreams but it seemed to me the Basset hound eyes of Jeremy Paxman that was the most likely to actually destroy your career! (Although I am told he has a look of Prince Charles.)

Tom from Morrisons and Paul came to our Bradford Studio where the Halloween pumpkins were made to do the photoshoot against our rustic wall.  Together we put together a set and then the camera and flashes clicked away immortalizing this years celebrity pumpkin carvings in film.  Many thanks to Paul for giving me another lesson in photography!
