FAIRY TALE ICE TRAIL!
The magical and picturesque coastal outpost of Saltburn was given added enchantment by the addition of wondrous characters from well-loved, classic fairy tales!

WEATHERING THE STORM!
Inclement weather almost scuppered the event as storm as storm Darragh ripped through the North Yorkshire coast in early December. Luckily scheduling allowed for postponement to the following weekend and what a difference a week makes! Just look at the sunshine in those photos!
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council chose the to be pantomime, which opened up a fantastical world of fairy tale characters! Amongst the wondrous sculptures that were made prior to the event were Peter’s (aptly enough!) Peter Pan and Dave’s genie from Aladdin! A wonderful Disneyesque castle was pre-carved on the CNC machine from a 3D digital model by Jonathan, who then finessed the resulting castle design into a fine sculpture.

Along with a dragon, pumpkin carriage photo-frame, glass slipper, and the obligatory postbox for letters to Santa, the scene was set for a fairy-tale transformation fit for an ice queen!
The trip to Saltburn finally went ahead on Saturday 14th December on a wonderful crisp, clear and sunny morning. All the sculptures were put in place by the team (Dave, Peter, Jonathan and Jocasta) and the way was cleared for Peter and Dave to fuse together the blocks to form the structure for the live carving which was to be a theatrical ice throne. Jocasta and Jonathan donned their elfish attire and ran the ever popular letter writing workshops, with magical ice postbox.

Peter and Dave wowed the crowds with their deft chainsaw, die grinder and chisel craft. The resulting ice throne had crowds of visitors who queued to have their photo taken in the crystalline seat! Even the Sugar Plum Fairy struck a pose for a few candid snaps!

With the glistening sun finally setting on the beautiful North Yorkshire shores, and all the painstakingly written letters to Santa were posted in the ice postbox, it was time to hit the road and prepare for the next big adventure!
