This July we had the incredible opportunity to create something truly magical on the beautiful shores of Margate Beach. Combining the ethereal charm of the seaside with a touch of creativity inspired by the world of hair care.
Our team was commissioned to design and sculpt a breathtaking mermaid entirely out of sand to celebrate and promote the new Philip Kingsley hair care product range Swim Cap.
The idea of a mermaid was a perfect fit for this promotion. After all whos seal of approval can beat that of a mermaid, when it comes to protecting hair from UV rays and Saltwater.
Creating a life-sized mermaid out of sand is no small feat, but its one Peter and Dave from the Sand In Your Eye team eagerly embraced. As the mermaid was to be created on the shores of Margate beach, the team were up against the tide and set off down to the beach just around sunrise at 5:00am.
Once the van was unloaded, base tent was pitched and the sculpting location was cordoned, Dave and Peter set to work slowly building and layering the sand to brig the Mermaid to life.
The hair of the mermaid was the centerpiece of the sculpture, carved to mimic the texture and flow or real hair in motion.
As the mermaid was raised from the sandy shoreline , the team at Philip Kingsley engaged with passers, handing out samples and promoting the benefits their luxurious hair care brand.
The Social Media team at Philip Kingsley arrived around lunch time to capture videos and stills as our sculptors adding the finishing touches to the Mermaid and by 14:00 the mythical creature was ready for her photoshoot.
We were thrilled to collaborate with Philip Kingsley on this project after all, no summer is complete without a mermaid sighting on the beach.
