On June 22nd the team were invited by East Lindsey Council to Sutton-On-Sea to take part in their Postcards in the Sand event, which they were running to get the community excited for the Vintage Weekend event the following weekend (29-30th June).
We were tasked with making a 25 meter vintage postcard in the sand and putting on a sand drawing workshop to get the visitors to the beach involved by writing their own postcard messages around the artwork.
Jamie, Dave and Jonathan spent the day before on the beach, finding the best location for the drawing and workshops as well as locating the closest fish and chip shop!
The following day Amy and Jocasta met the team at 8:30am and began setting up for the day. By 10:30 Dave, Jonathan and Jocasta were ready to start drawing, Jamie had the drone and camera in hand and Amy, along with two people from the East Lindsey council team, had everything ready for the 11:30 start of workshops.
Despite a rather ominous looking grey cloud, the weather held out for us all and the day was brilliant fun for everyone involved. The East Lindsey Council team had set up some crafting workshops from one of the beach huts as well as a team capturing stories and contributions of old postcards, mementos or memories of holidays to the Lincolnshire Coast as part of a future artwork.
After completing the giant postcard just before 2pm the workshops continued for another 2 hours before the tide started to come in and take the images away.
By 4:30 it was like we hadn’t been there at all! The only evidence we were there is the memories we made, oh and this fantastic video!!
